Who says recessions are all bad? From my chair, I have noticed a silver lining through the pain and heartache people are experiencing. In the midst of the financial chaos, many are finding a new beginning. Could it be that people are realizing there are financial habits in their lives that have been destructive and need to change? Somehow, there seems to be peace and healing going on in the lives of many families as they face the realities of years of over indulgence and financial leveraging.

40 days is an interesting timeframe. Making a sacrifice or taking on a good discipline for a 40 day period could be a very healthy thing for you. If you are Roman Catholic, or happen to live in New Orleans, you probably know where I am going with this.

Today is Fat Tuesday. You may know it by the French translation, Mardi Gras.

I must say that I am not a fan of what this particular day represents. It is essentially a day to live it up and involve yoruself in all of the immoral, unethical, undisciplined behavior you can so that starting tomorrow you can live some other reality for 40 days. That seems counterintuitive to me, but hey, it’s tradition, what can you do?

Each and everyday that we turn on the TV we receive updates of the horrible situation that continues to unfold in Haiti. The rescue effort continues to surge forward in efforts to find lost children, husbands, wives, and loved ones. Miracles continue to happen as weeks after the devastation bodies are being pulled from the rubble ALIVE! As we continue to watch and pray for this devastated nation our hearts go out to all of those still searching to find peace and safety.

We know that many of you have already donated to help the rescue efforts in Haiti. Whether through local churches, humanitarian centers, and other organizations that are striving to relieve some of the pain and suffering.
